Sunway University is part of the Sunway Education Group, fully owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), Malaysia’s largest education-focused social enterprise. Established in 2004 and 1987 respectively, the campus is located within the integrated township of Sunway City and is well-connected to nearby cities and highly populated suburbs via an extensive network of roads, expressways and public transportation.

Students can experience e-Learning and benefit from the university’s Wi-Fi that is available throughout the main campus including the university buildings, lecture halls, library, classrooms, cafeteria, the concourse and open areas.
Other more advanced benefits of the high-quality bandwidth include direct linkage into international Educational Research networks in the UK, Australia and Singapore, and enhanced delivery of multimedia content. Student Wi-Fi accounts also provide access to facilities like scanning, photocopying and printing.
Sunway University’s library is ISO 9001:2015 certified and is among the largest of its kind in Malaysia for private educational institutions. It offers easy access to thousands of e-journals and large international databases facilitated by state-of-the-art technology.

Sunway University has a close educational partnership with Lancaster University, UK over the years. Lancaster University is one of the most outstanding British research university that is ranked in the top 10 in the UK (Complete University Guide 2018) and is named the “University of the Year” by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018. Many of Sunway University’s degree programmes are designed to match those of Lancaster University. Therefore, students taking many of our degree programmes to obtain a dual degree from Lancaster in addition to their Sunway University degree. This partnership gives an excellent opportunity for Malaysian and international students to earn a prestigious international qualification alongside a local degree whilst studying in Southeast Asia.
Sunway University is proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Le Cordon Bleu International, one of the most highly rated hospitality and well-known international culinary training organisations in the world. This collaboration awards graduates from certified Sunway University culinary and hospitality programmes with a degree/diploma from the University with a parchment from Le Cordon Bleu.
Sunway University through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Cambridge to strengthen educational and research collaboration between Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

Sunway University has been rapidly establishing itself as a University that advances multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary research on the global stage. Sunway University to bring together like-minded passionate researchers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to discover new knowledge and generate solutions to address local, national, and global issues particularly in the areas of sustainable development and planetary health. Sunway University has made significant steps towards becoming a top research-intensive private university in Southeast Asia, collaborating with research institutes, which include Future Cities Research Institute, Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia, Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development, Sunway Institute for Global Strategy and Competitiveness (IGSC), and Sunway Centre for Planetary Health. Sunway University also collaborates with many top universities around the world in advanced research and development. The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) Travel Grant enables scholars from Sunway and Harvard to visit each other’s institutions for research projects. The Foundation also supports a scholar-in-residence scheme at Brasenose College, Oxford, for Sunway University’s researchers. The American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) offered by the School of American Education (SAE) started in 1987 as a Twinning Programme and then transitioned into a Transfer Programme. Patterned after the American university system, the program was developed specifically to allow students to complete the first two years of their undergraduate degree at Sunway University and then transfer to the United States for degree completion.

Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, AO, Founder and Trustee of Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, and Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group, firmly believes that a good education opens doors to a better life and that the opportunity for education should be equal. It is with this in mind that the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, which replaced the Sunway Education Trust Fund set up in 1997, was established in March 2010.
As of 2023, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has awarded more than RM670 million in Scholarships to thousands of deserving students in various fields of study. Through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Sunway University has continuously contributed scholarships and education funds to deserving students through the scholarships and awards.
International students can contact staff and counsellors in the Student LIFE Centre to know which scholarships they are eligible for, and for more information on how to apply for them.
There is also the Jeffrey Cheah Scholastic Award, awarded to students who achieve outstanding results in their individual academic programme at the end of their course.
