Careers and Employability Services

At the University of Waikato, career development services  are offered to students, which include recent graduates as well as alumni, with tools and support for career development.

Waikato’s careers and employability team supports students in exploring career expos, attending career readiness workshops, developing their CVs and accessing online resources. The team also helps students with attending networking events and accessing services such as career planning through online chats and drop-in sessions, guidance on starting a new job, understanding employment rights and postgraduate advice.

MyCareer

An online system, MyCareer allows students to manage their own career development. Students can set up personal profiles, book-in for tutorials and workshops, create appointments with career advisors, as well as search and apply for volunteer and graduate opportunities.

What's new

Researchers in the School of Science at the University of Waikato, along with industry partner Premium Seas, have developed a unique and high-value seaweed supplement for the U.S. health market, featuring a new method for extracting and processing fucoidan from seaweed.

Researchers from the School of Psychology and the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, funded by the Marsden Fund, have discovered that red spectrum light applied to the skin can illuminate a woman's womb, challenging the belief that it is dark. This breakthrough paves the way for experimental research on the human foetus during the third trimester.

The university's School of Health Equity and Innovation recently received investment from the Health Research Council to study the roll-out of glucose monitors and insulin pumps to people with type 1 diabetes. This project will help to ensure this life-changing technology reaches those who will benefit the most.

Researchers from the University of Waikato, University of Newcastle, and Cardiff University are combining artificial intelligence (AI) and federated learning to help farmers improve productivity and sustainability by analysing plant and soil health data for better decision-making.

Researchers from the Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies held an international conference to share findings from their five-year research programme, titled Working to End Racial Oppression, funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment. The conference, attended by 260 global researchers, focused on racism, its impact on wellbeing and strategies to reduce it.
