Small, Beautiful Campus

Adelphi’s home in Garden City combines the excitement and convenience of an urban center with the charm and safety of a small residential community. The University’s campus is only a short walk from the train with a fast 45-minute ride to New York City’s Penn Station. The Campus is a fully sustainable green campus—one registered as a national arboretum. The Career Accelerator Program

The Career Accelerator will give students the skills and knowledge to excel professionally, whether they are searching for their career path, exploring postgraduate degree programs, preparing to lead their family’s business or planning to start their own company.

Designed exclusively for international undergraduate students, the Career Accelerator features unique workshops, real-world experiences, cross-cultural group work and skills-based training. Once they have progressed beyond the Undergraduate Accelerator, students will continue to work with their advisor on their individual career plan. 

Scholarships

Undergraduate international students are eligible for merit, talent and athletic scholarships that range from USD6,000 to full tuition.

Career Support

Students don’t have to wait until their senior year to use Adelphi’s career development services. Aside from planning for their life after graduation, the Career and Professional Development facilitates on- and off-campus jobs while still a student, internship preparation, and workshops to develop their professional skills.

The undergraduate and masters accelerator programs on offer help international students with their transition by combining credit-bearing courses, in line with their career goals, from the first year of their degree with additional academic support, instruction and cultural experiences.

Undergraduate Accelerator

There are three flexible Accelerator routes to choose from, depending on student qualifications and personal preferences.

• Extended Accelerator Program

The Extended Accelerator Program (EAP) is a three-semester program that gives students a firsthand practical and cultural understanding of the Adelphi campus and New York area through its contextual curriculum.

• Academic Accelerator Program

The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a two-semester program that equips students with the practical, subject-specific vocabulary and skills they need to excel in their course work.

• Integrated Accelerator Program

The Integrated Accelerator Program (IAP) is a two-semester program designed specifically for international students with an advanced level of English-language proficiency who also want the academic, cultural, professional and linguistic support they need to thrive at Adelphi.

Masters Accelerator Program (MAP)

The MAP is comprised of three distinct programs:

• Integrated Masters Accelerator Program (IMAP)

The Integrated Masters Accelerator Program (IMAP) is a one-semester program designed specifically for international students with an advanced level of English-language proficiency; it helps them earn a semester’s worth of credits in their graduate degree, as well as benefit from additional professional and research courses tailored to their needs as an international student.

• Masters Accelerator Program 1 (MAP 1)

The Masters Accelerator Program 1 (MAP 1) is a one-semester, pre-masters program designed specifically for international students who are ready to succeed in immersive English-speaking classrooms, but who also want the benefit of English-language and academic training that will help them succeed in their postgraduate program.

• Masters Accelerator Program 2 (MAP 2)

The Masters Accelerator Program 2 (MAP 2) is a two-semester program exclusively offered to aspirational international students. MAP 2 students benefit from wrap-around support and language for discipline-specific purposes. The curriculum will include advanced writing, public speaking and research instruction; each course is designed to help ensure student success at Adelphi.

The Career Accelerator 

The Career Accelerator offers five different tracks: 

• College-to-Career-For students pursuing an internship (or co-op) experience during their college years and/or seeking general preparation for their postgraduate job search

• Advanced Degree Preparation-For students who intend to directly pursue a masters or doctorate degree

• Sponsored Business Development-For students participating in a corporate scholarship program with activities customized to the sponsoring company and/or industry

• Family Business Development-For students pursuing a degree to assist with the strengthening and expansion of a family-owned business

• Entrepreneurship-For students intending to start, own, run and manage their own business after graduation

Adelphi’s College of Arts and Sciences provides a rich, well-rounded education rooted in a strong liberal arts tradition. 

College of Nursing and Public Health

The comprehensive education in Adelphi’s College of Nursing and Public Health is grounded in practice, delivery, innovation and efficiency. The bachelors and masters programs in nursing are accredited by The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Robert B Willumstad School of Business

This School aspires to be the business school of choice for current and aspiring leaders who act in accordance with ethical principles and who are informed by in-depth knowledge of business-related disciplines. It joined an elite group of fewer than 6 percent of the world’s business schools in 2007-when it received accreditation from AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

School of Social Work

The Adelphi University School of Social Work trains practitioners to improve the lives of individuals, families, groups, and communities. It is consistently ranked as one of the top programs in the USA—a strong advocate for social justice and a driving force for ethical social work practice.

Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies

The Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies was the USA’s first university-based professional school of psychology in 1972. It is recognized as an international leader, dedicated to scholarship and committed to preparing professionals for a changing society.

Ruth S. Ammon School of Education

The School of Education prepares teachers, clinicians and professionals through undergraduate and graduate programs in three departments: Curriculum and Instruction; Communication Sciences and Disorders; and Exercise Science Health Studies, Physical Education and Sport Management.

Campus Life is an essential component of a student’s college experience and with more than 80 diverse student clubs and organizations, Adelphi provides the means to fulfill that need. With student organizations falling into a variety of categories including academic, media, community service, cultural, Greek life, and special interest- there is a club for everyone. The incredible variety of student organizations at Adelphi is a reflection of the rich diversity of its student body.

Student organizations are run by students and sponsor a variety of free and discounted trips, concerts, talent shows, parties, open-mic nights, and cultural events. In addition, they offer countless volunteer opportunities and publish the campus newspaper and yearbook. 

The Center for Student Involvement is the hub for campus life and houses clubs, activities, social events and community groups, and a resource to more than 80 student organizations that include academic and social groups. Students can take part in numerous programs that will help them learn, socialize and grow.

Adelphi’s Center for Career and Professional Development is focused on student-advancement.

Its dedicated career educators specialize in students’ professional success, helping them establish leadership skills through programs tailored to them. “One of my favorite things about Adelphi is its close proximity to New York City. The small class sizes at Adelphi are another favorite aspect of mine. With an average class size of 20 students, I receive the individual attention that sets Adelphi apart from other universities. I received so many opportunities from my professors during my freshman year. For example, I have had the opportunity to assist in several studies in Adelphi’s neurophysiology speech pathology lab, alongside graduate students.

I don’t feel as if I am just a number in a classroom, which may be the case at larger universities. In my experience, Adelphi’s professors truly care about their students and help them to achieve their goals.”
