Founded in 1850 by a group of civic and religious leaders who came together to establish "an Institution of learning of Collegiate grade", Illinois Wesleyan is a nationally recognized, independent, private university, exclusively offering undergraduate courses. The university offers over 100 majors, minors, and concentrations. Approximately 1,600 students are enrolled at Illinois Wesleyan, at its vibrant residential campus in Bloomington, Illinois. The university's relationship with the church has continuously evolved over the years. While retaining its Methodist affiliation, Illinois Wesleyan continues to be a diverse and inclusive community, independent in its governance. Whatever their course of study, students at Illinois Wesleyan will develop habits of inquiry, clear communication, and adaptable problem-solving that will empower them to go into the world with the skills that employers and graduate schools are seeking.
