Process This!

Why should you consider the USA for your UG computer Science major? Well-first of all – your natural interest in the subject area, being Reason 1.

Reason 2 …the scope of computer science and engineering degrees in the USA.  We mean it when we say that there is extraordinary demand out there in the US for software engineers. As we were browsing just the other day, something made our heart skip a beat- the 2015 average starting salary of a software engineer in America is $61,287.

A Gazillion Likes To That!

Love Facebook? And now after what we’re about to say- you’ll love social media sites even more- as they are among the top 20 companies paying software engineers – to put in simple words- a BOMB! All that time on Facebook and Twitter was not such a bad thing after all huh! It’s all product knowledge at the end of the day right? So there- that would be your Reason 3!

Here-have a look at these unbelievable numbers for yourself:

‘Comp’ Hail or Storm!

Reason 4- Plus let’s not forget the fact that even when the economy is headed for a fall or lingers and sputters, software engineers remain in high demand- as the unemployment rate for this field is regularly less than the national average in the US.

Reason 5- Studies show that when the year 2022 dawns in the USA, 200,000 new job opportunities are expected to spring up in this seemingly recession-resistant field.

If you were feeling undecided about heading this direction, we’re sure this was the gentle nudge you needed to get started.  Now let’s have a look at some of the best places and institutions offering this degree.

CSE Unplugged!

Below are a few cities for computer science and engineering study aspirants- these have promisingly good employment rates in the field:

  • San Jose, California
  • Blacksburg, Virginia

The World of Binary Digits!

Here is a quick glance at our list of the top five U.S universities offering undergraduate computer science programmes in the USA.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

There is really no better choice for computer science majors other than the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT-the apple of our eye! For those who’d like to pay attention to price, its tuition fee- $11,000 a year post scholarships isn’t half bad. Its school of engineering has ten different engineering departments, from computer science, aeronautics, astronautics to nuclear science and engineering! MIT has  twenty different engineering labs and offers cross-departmental training programmes.

Harvard University

Massachusetts-based Harvard University offers computer science programmes through its School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Needless to say- the School has many distinguished faculty members, including MacArthur Awards and Nobel Prizes winners; it boasts over 400,000 sq.ft. of classrooms, clusters, offices, and interconnected labs. Harvard’s baseline tuition maybe a bit high but this amount reduces  when you take into consideration different forms of financial aid available.

Princeton University

Princeton University is highly reputed for both its computer science programmes, and its tuition price-tag may seem a tad hefty, which it makes up for by offering a large amount in grants and scholarships annually.

Cornell University

New York based Cornell University’s College of Engineering has departments ranging from Computer Science, Applied and Engineering Physics to Systems Engineering. Computer science students are presented with opportunities to study artificial intelligence, robotics, computational biology, security, and other such in-demand areas.

University of Maryland

The College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences of the University of Maryland offers a highly ranked computer science programme. The College offers more than ten inner-departmental scholarships for its undergraduate students as well.

So there it is- the five best universities from the U.S. of A -to head to for your UG computer Science programmes.
