Fulbright Nehru Scholarship: Eligibility Criteria

Prerequisites

The candidate must: Be an Indian citizen who can contribute to the development of India and help promote the friendship between India and the U.S. Not be in the U.S. during the placement and recruitment cycle. In addition to the above, if employed, the requirements include: Candidates must have three years of full-time (paid) work experience. The employer must approve leave for the duration of the fellowship programme.

Fulbright Nehru Scholarship: Selection Process

● Deserving Indian applicants must go through a stringent application and interview process. Only online applications are accepted.

● Applicant’s CV and personal essay are reviewed thoroughly. Candidates are selected based on academic performance, professional experience, leadership skills, competencies, and community service experience. 

● Candidates are then shortlisted based on all the above criteria. Selected candidates get help with processing visas and obtaining health insurance. They get a detailed pre-departure orientation.

● The Institute of International Education (IIE), New York, handles the placement of successful candidates. If a selected candidate already has an acceptance from a U.S. institution but has requested a deferral, they must inform USIEF immediately.
