The University of Liverpool, founded in 1881, is home to around 32,500 students, including more than 7,900 international students from over 187 countries. More than 600 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are offered by the university, spanning the areas of business and management, health, science, engineering, humanities and social sciences.
As a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group, research is central to everything at the University of Liverpool. Its research is ranked 25th in the UK, with 91 percent classed as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021).
The university has invested GBP one billion in its campus and teaching and research facilities. It has a ‘Gold’ rating for educational excellence in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023, with seven subjects listed in the top 10 in the UK. The University of Liverpool Management School is one of an elite group of institutions worldwide, holding the gold standard triple accreditation from AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS.
The university’s award-winning careers and employability service provides international students with effective job search techniques, and 94 percent of its graduates are either employed or in further studies within 15 months of graduating. What’s more, through the Liverpool Launchpad initiative, students are guaranteed access to career-boosting experiences with top UK employers.
Liverpool is one of the most affordable student cities in the UK and has been voted the second ‘friendliest city’ in the UK according to Conde Nast Traveller Reader’s Choice Awards 2023. Home of the iconic band The Beatles and to two Premier League football clubs, Liverpool has more museums, galleries, theatres and listed buildings than any UK city outside of London. If students still want to travel down to the capital, London is just 2 hours 20 minutes away by train.

Liverpool Scholarships are designed to support outstanding international students who demonstrate academic excellence. This includes the Liverpool Excellence Scholarship for Undergraduates, worth up to GBP 7,500, and the Liverpool Excellence Scholarship for Postgraduates, worth up to GBP 7,000, as well as a range of generous achievement and country-based awards.
Exclusively for postgraduate students from India, the Liverpool Achievement scholarship offers a GBP 5,000 tuition fee discount for students who achieve a 2:1 or equivalent undergraduate degree, and the Liverpool Attainment award offers a GBP 2,000 tuition fee discount to students from India who meet the conditions of their offer.

A recent study by High Fliers Research Ltd showed that graduates from the University of Liverpool are some of the most targeted by leading graduate employers. It ranks 17th out of more than 140 UK universities for most engaged with by recruiting employers.
The university offers flexible start date options with programmes starting in September and a selection of programmes in health sciences, business and management, computer science and engineering starting in January.

Undergraduate students at the XJTLU Entrepreneur College campus in Taicang have the opportunity to study on the new Taicang Year in Liverpool programme starting in September 2026. Students study a unique academic and skills-based programme that expands horizons, provides an international experience and gives career plans a real boost.

The University of Liverpool offers a wide range of financial support options to help international students manage the cost of studying in the UK. These include generous tuition fee discounts and various scholarships and bursaries tailored to undergraduate, master's, and postgraduate research students.
These scholarships are based on academic merit, personal achievement, and other eligibility criteria. In addition to internal awards, students may also benefit from external funding opportunities.
The newly released Liverpool Scholarships will be open to self-funded international students commencing a degree programme from September 2026, with options including:
A dedicated scholarship finder tool is available to help applicants identify suitable options, and advisors are on hand to guide students through the process.
Several international qualifications are accepted for undergraduate admissions. Applicants should check the country specific requirements page on the university’s website for the most relevant information.
Applicants for a taught master’s degree will usually be required to hold the equivalent of a UK bachelor’s degree.
Similarly, for MPhil and PhD courses, international applicants must hold a master’s qualification or the equivalent of a high-grade bachelor’s degree, alongside some research experience and thesis writing.
International applicants need to demonstrate English language proficiency. A minimum of CEFR B2 in each component (speaking, writing, listening and reading) is required, and is also necessary to secure a study visa for entry into the UK.
For students who do not meet these minimum requirements, there is an English Language Centre on campus, which runs pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses to improve skills to gain a university place. Some of the shorter course options (12-week, 10-week and 6-week) can be studied online or on campus.
International applicants who have different education systems from the UK may require additional preparation before commencing a degree at the University of Liverpool. Applicants can study with Kaplan’s University of Liverpool International College (UoLIC) via several pathway programmes to gain guaranteed progression onto their chosen University of Liverpool degree course.

The University of Liverpool holds the Gold award in the Teaching Excellence Framework (2023) for educational excellence in student experience and outcomes. It is also renowned for excellent teaching in medicine, dentistry, business, law, architecture and engineering.

The Liverpool Career Commitment guarantees students a 40-hour virtual internship, exclusive online career training designed by top employers such as Amazon, Siemens and Rolls Royce and an alumni mentor to ensure students are well prepared for a successful career.
The university has global partnerships with Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (China), University of Liverpool International College (Kaplan) on campus, and over 100 exchange partnerships with universities all over the world.
These partnerships allow students to continually benefit from international exposure, either by studying in Liverpool alongside international students, or by making use of global study opportunities. Current opportunities exist in Europe, Asia, North America, and Australia.
In August 2026, the university’s Bengaluru campus welcomes its first intake of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The campus represents a significant step forward in India-UK higher education collaboration
The university works with industry partners, from SMEs to large global organisations, to create solutions to some of the world’s toughest challenges. In turn, these organisations provide real world projects and placements for students to work on, internships, and employing students after they graduate.
The School of Engineering leads the UK’s involvement in the international ‘Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate’ initiative, an innovative educational framework for producing ‘industry-ready’ engineering graduates.
The University of Liverpool offers a huge range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across its three faculties: the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Award-winning accommodation provides a community where students make friends in a safe, supported environment. There’s a great choice of accommodation with over 4,400 student rooms across the Greenbank Student Village and city campus residences. Room costs include utility bills, insurance, broadband and use of communal areas.
The Guild of Students building in the heart of campus is where everything takes place. The Guild offers a huge range of activities, with over 200 societies to join and a volunteering platform that offers fun, rewarding opportunities to help students develop personally and professionally. Students can also access the university’s ‘Give it a Go’ programme packed with affordable trips and activities.
The Sport and Fitness Centre includes a 25-metre swimming pool, sports halls, squash courts, studios, bouldering wall, gym and weight training area. Sport Liverpool has 53 competitive sports clubs, which represent Liverpool in the British Universities and Colleges Sport leagues (BUCS), there are also internal campus sport leagues, along with excellent indoor and outdoor facilities.
The university’s two libraries open 24/7 (term time), provide access to books, computers, study spaces and helpful, friendly staff. Library collections include 2 million print books and 900,000 eBooks. ‘KnowHow’ is a library service which helps students develop academic skills and excel in their studies. Online and face to-face workshops and resources help with essay planning and preparing for exams.
IT services include a 24/7 IT Service Desk, over 2,000 computers, and free high-speed Wi-Fi. These are free to use across campus. Also, free software is available to be installed on students’ own computers. Free mobile apps let learners access their timetables and coursework wherever they are.
