Quality vs. cost: why study in the UK, USA and Australia?

While selecting a course and university to study abroad, international students often look for three things: the quality of education, rankings or reputation of the institute where they plan to study and the amount of money required for their education.

And sometimes, money becomes the only prime concern for the majority of middle-class Indian families who nurture the dream to send their children abroad for a high-quality education.

But, of course, there are several ways to sponsor the education, though there are no easy ways. Several scholarships, grants and fellowships are on offer for international students, either from the government or private sectors. All you need to do is watch out for those scholarships and financial aid and make use of those at the right time.

International higher education is now accessible, more than ever. As more and more countries welcome students with open arms to their education institutes, the competition grows stronger among those countries.

However, we still find a lot of students around the globe choosing to study in the USA, UK and Australia. In fact, these three countries have been favourite student destinations, year on year.

One may ask, what makes students prefer the USA, UK and Australia for their studies, though the cost of studying in these countries is expensive.

There are several reasons to it…

Institutes in the UK, USA and Australia are recognised all over the world, ranked under different categories by prestigious journals and magazines, such as the THE World University Rankings and QS World University Rankings

The quality of education delivered by American universities is at par. There are several reasons why international students prefer studying in the USA – the length and breadth of curricula, extensive hands-on learning experience and university collaborations with leading industries and businesses.

Also, both British and Australian higher education systems are equally sought by most international students. The Australian G08 institutes, particularly, are chosen by students all around the world due to the reach and exposure they offer their students.

It’s said that one out of six international students in the USA is an Indian. There are many reasons why a US education has been looked upon as a matter of paramount importance for students from India, for so many decades.

Similarly, many Indian students consider studying in the UK and Australia as a lifetime opportunity, which add a lot of value to their academic and professional lives.

Good quality education is defined by the ability to produce skilled, independent graduates in the modern competitive world. Expert faculties, student amenities, research opportunities and work-oriented learning opportunities are factored in when defining good-quality higher learning universities abroad.

And this applies to the majority of universities and colleges in the above three countries where students are guaranteed to receive a high-quality learning.

Employability record

The UK, US and Australian varsities work in close partnership with industries and organisations that provide hands-on learning opportunities for students. Students can learn and expand their network while working with different people.  They can also develop key skills required to become employable graduates and expand their knowledge beyond theory.

Also, most of these universities take the ownership to counsel students with their job search and help them understand what’s expected out of them by employers, worldwide.

Environment and amenities

Universities in the UK, USA and Australia offer amenities that are in pertinence to students’ academic and personal support. Most of these universities abide by strict safety protocols; therefore, promising a safety net in which students live and study on campus.

Academic benefits

The major academic benefits that students receive from these universities are scholarships, grants, bursaries or fellowships, either based on their merit or financial background.

Many international students who are meritorious but don’t have the means to support their education in the USA are fully funded under the ‘need-blind admission’ scheme at certain US varsities.

Universities in Australia and the UK too offer many ways to support their students, either through full scholarships or partial scholarships or prizes.

It’s ok if you have chosen any other countries for your abroad studies, out of this list, because what matters most is how you, as an international student, want to receive your education and plan your own career.

If you think that studying in Canada or Ireland or Germany could give you as much an equal edge over others as the above countries would do, then you are free to go for it.
