University Entrance Criteria

To be eligible to study in Hong Kong, one must follow certain steps and submit documents before the university's application process ends. Universities have different entrance requirements before you can be admitted. Though these requirements may vary from university to university, the general requirements are earning a satisfactory rating in your country's ‘Aptitude test’.
You might also have to take the TOEFL/Test of English as a Foreign Language or IELTS/International English Language Testing System (or other equivalent examinations) if English is not your native language. Some particulars in the requirements also include the ‘General Academic Requirements’ either under international or national qualifications.
Hong Kong has eight public and several private universities. Most undergraduate degrees are four-year courses. They are taught in English, but some short courses taught in Mandarin are also available. The application period for international students takes place during September to December in the year before the admission. As an applicant, you should be able to mail in your applications a year before the desired year of admission. Be careful not to submit your documents late because your application may be rejected. Application documents are readily available online through the websites of the universities, you may choose to print them out and follow the instructions to complete them.
